York Anime Club

BIG NEWS:

The West Manchester Mall has decided to wipe out that general area for what I presume will be a larger store.  I do not know for who or what, early indications are that most of the stores (including Paul's Collectibles) in that corner of the mall will also need to move.  If the mall decides to do away with the community room instead of moving it, our last meeting there will be on January 26, 2008.  Hence, we are now on the lookout for new venues.

Based in York, PA, we typically meet the last Saturday of each month in the Community Room at West Manchester Mall, near the Value City end.  Meetings typically start around noon and run until 9PM, when the mall officially closes for the evening.

Big thanks to Paul who runs the Collectibles Store for sponsoring the meetings each month.  If you're in the area, check out his store; you may likely find something relevant to your interests.

Meeting agenda for January 26:
1:00:  Doors open
1:30:  Lucky Star 12-15
4:00:  Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann 9-12
6:30:  Higurashi no naku koro ni Kai 10-13
9:00:  Meeting ends; post-meeting dinner (usually at Denny's)

As for February:  We'll figure that out somehow.

Previous schedules

Long ago, the video setup was simple; a small TV set and a VCR.  Then it was a TV, a VCR, and a DVD player.  Then it was the TV and DVD player.  Then sometime in early 2004 I started bringing my laptop to the meetings, and hooked it up to the TV via an RF adapter.  This was up until early 2006, when we got The Projector.  Then I decided to bring my PC, while much less portable than my laptop, it had more power and storage to it and could handle some of the newer and more exotic files.

Current tech setup:
2.66GHz dual-core PC connected to a portable projector via DVI cable.  The image is beamed onto a white section of wall.  Sound is provided by a pair of computer speakers.  It's not a large room, so it works well.  Video sources are generally either .avi, .mkv, or DVD.  (I forget how long ago it was that we used VHS for anything.)  Someday I might have a screen to go with the setup.

Rules (yes, there are rules):
1:  Eating and drinking are allowed, but if you make a mess, you will clean it up.  Oh yes you will.  (Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on mall property and thusly not permitted in the room.) Throw your trash away before you leave, there's a can in the room for that purpose.

2:  Do not make other club members nervous.  That's my job.

3a:  Do not harass or intimidate other club members.  Vocal disapproval of someone's behavior is acceptable, though.
3b:  If someone tells you to leave them alone, please honor that request.  To persist will only make things worse, and then I'll have to get involved and it'll just spiral downwards from there.

4:  If it's illegal outside, it's illegal inside.

5:  Do not destroy chairs, tables, or the room itself.  I will find out and see to it you are held responsible.

6:  Do not mess with other people's stuff.  That's something that can get you messed up bad and/or banned, especially if it's my stuff that's getting messed with.

7a:  When the lights go off and the show starts, that's time to keep quiet.  (Laughing at funny stuff on the screen is ok.)  If you must carry a conversation with someone or talk on the phone, please do so outside.
7b:  During showtime, please set cell phones and other electronic devices not crucial to the showing to either a silent mode or off altogether.

8:  Eight, eight... I forget what eight was for.

9:  Don't complain if you missed a show when you were out doing something else.  You can't watch what's being shown if you're not there to see it.

Most of these rules are based on common sense, but I felt I should mention them anyway.

This club is not affiliated with any commercial or non-profit organization, although most of us attend both Tekkoshocon and Anime USA as well as various other conventions in the area.
